Grand Tour

A highlight of the students’ educational experience at The Oaks is the Senior Grand Tour. The incoming seniors travel to Greece and Italy to experience the history they have studied since 2nd grade. This enables the students to properly understand the great achievements of Western Civilization by experiencing them firsthand.

History Emphasis Week

At The Oaks, the study of Western Civilization is central to the student's proper understanding of the world in which they live.  Western history, art, and literature provide a unique window into the formative cultures of the past. Learning from the historical events of yesterday helps students develop the wisdom and discernment needed to make positive changes in the world today. A week of focused activities learning of different historical eras is conducted each year.

Civil War Re-enactment

As an important and formative part of our country's history the Civil war is studied and specific battles are re-enacted by the entire secondary student body.  In what has become an annual, fiercely contested duel between the "North" and the "South", the sights and sounds of canon fire(water balloon launchers filled w/ flour bombs), & musket fire(nylon puches filled with flour) complete this re-enactment which seeks to approximate this historic event in an engaging way.

Spring Ball & Protocol Week

Students in 7th through 12th grade, parents, and teachers enjoy a formal evening of dancing together at the annual Spring Ball. Students learn manners and etiquette during Protocol Week which culminates with a formal dinner and social event.
